Process of Sprouting at Home
As I have said in the immediately preceding paragraph, sprouting at home doesn’t need some equipment to complete the process. Normally, sprouting at home only needs a jar or a tray which is big enough to store and hold the sprout. Most of the time, the sprouts can weigh four times higher than their original weight. You should also see to it that you rinse it thoroughly and be allowed to dry because wet sees will rot easily and would taste sour. During sprouting period some of the seeds may have their husks shed away so be sure to wash them during the final rinsing process. While husks also contain vitamins, many people still choose to eat sprouts without husks on them. On the last day of your sprouting at home, it is best to allow your grain sprouts like barley, wheat, and alfafa get some light exposure so that they will get greener.
Jar Method of Sprouting at Home
If you plan to sprout mung beans or soybeans, it is best to use the jar method of sprouting at home. As with the process, you need to first measure the amount of seeds or beans and remove seeds which have cracks or those which are suffering from discoloration. After this, you need to rinse what was left on a strainer. You will then need to put the seeds in a glass container which is thoroughly cleaned. After putting the seeds inside, you need to place a cloth on the mouth of the jar and make sure to tighten it through the use of rubber band. Basing on the measurement you have made on the amount of seed in the first step, you need to put lukewarm tap water and the amount of it should be 4 times the amount of seeds placed inside the jar. Allow the seed to soak on the water overnight. In the next morning, pour the water inside through the cloth and shake the jar so that the seeds would spread. Let the jar drain out the water by placing it upside down so that the water will flow through the cloth. Store it in a dark place. Get the jar from the dark place where you previously stored the same. Make sure that you are able to wash them daily using running cold water. Allow the water to flow through the jar and pour the water through the cloth. If you see seeds which are moldy, have them removed quickly. Remember that while the seed should remain moist, it should however not be left wet. Rinsing can last from 4 to 6 days and after you notice that the sprouts already reached the length that you would like it to grown, remove the husks and have the sprouts refrigerated.
You can add the sprouts on your favourite salads, casseroles or have them stir-fried. If the results are greener, they are best served with sandwiches. Enjoy a sumptuous meal and proudly tell your friends how rewarding it is to perform sprouting at home.
